Home – Practice Areas – Q and A - Misdemeanor Minor Consumption
When I was in college I got a misdemeanor minor consumption. Will this stay on my record permanently?
Answer
Historically, a criminal conviction for a misdemeanor offense does not automatically drop off of one’s record. Depending on the date of sentencing, and if you have remained law abiding, you may be eligible to petition for an expungement. Further, there are significant changes in the expungement laws which occur in 2025. The expungement laws in Minnesota are very complicated. You should contact an attorney at Halberg Criminal Defense to discuss the exact circumstances of your conviction and the expungement laws as they relate to your case.
